 A moment of clarity

Driving home from our Sunday Movie gig (which I will not post about because it sucked and I do not remember the title to warn you against it), I saw a guy missing an arm.

My stomach fluttered and turned and twisted; and my spine got all chilly and stuff.

I have this thing about missing limbs/parts. It way grosses me out to a point of meltdown. In essence; it freaks me out (sorry if you are missing anything, I do not intend to offend).

I started to think about "why"...I can watch blood and guts surgery while eating dinner. Serial killing and gross stuff that Rob asks me kindly to turn off.

So why the missing limb thing?

I trace it back to the Principal of my school (circa 3rd grade). Short lady with a missing index finger. When the kids got in trouble and sent to her office, she would stick her nublin in your face and yell.

I wonder if she realizes the impact she had on me? No disciplinary actions come to mind or the positive effects she had on my existence, just a fear of others' limblessness

Five things I have heard/learned and still remember. I chose the ones that I think about on a daily basis.

Listed in the chronological order in which I learned them

1- a baby comes from a woman's baby hole
2- i comes before e, except after c
3- the gestation period of an elephant is 660 days
4- in a year, more people are killed by donkeys than airplane crashes
5- 40,000 americans are injured by toilets every year

Belle tagged me....dang it I came back to edit this post and I have forgotten who I tagged. Let's see.

Zappa Fan, Kristin, Val and Anythinggoes (oops I cheated on account I can't count) and BudaVamp

Of course, the dogs have different opinions about this ongoing presence of such high profile political figures

Magalicious is clearly a Liberal

Bruno must be a damn Commie

But the Nikster sure knows what to do when she hears Mommy asks about George Bush

 Our movie thinga ma' thingie

Here it is the Sunday movie day again. This time we saw "The Situation". A must see. Not sure of the release date or locations. Given the context of the movie, I imagine it will hit nationwide.

Hass, the Director was supposed to show up and do the post show discussion but was not able to make it. It was interesting to learn about the casts' careers and they (Arab actors) were very enthusiastic about playing parts that did not depict all Iraqis as religious nuts and terrorists. The movie was beautifully done and has the raw disturbing ending that I so love in a movie.

When a group of American soldiers throw an Iraqi boy off a bridge in Samarra, the incident sets off a chain of events that exposes the deep rifts among the Iraqis in Samarra--and results in yet another cycle of violence between the insurgents and the corrupt Iraqi police.

Anna is an American journalist who decides to write a story about the assassination of an Iraqi leader whom she admires. At the same time, she is pulling away from a relationship with Dan, an American intelligence official, who thinks the war can be won with hearts and minds; and is moving towards a courtship with Zaid, a young Iraqi photographer who shows her that there are people, rather than sides, in the conflict.

As she tries to make sense of the half-truths of Iraq, she finds herself in the middle of a love triangle, and in the midst of a dangerous situation, set against a thick web of alliances, agendas, and reverses.

Chanda's input:

The movie was moving and tense. A little long - character building and situations could have been trimmed up a bit, but worth checking out for sure.

Blame South African security,
A no suicide he was'nt insane.
It was not for him to live in Rome, No
Still they would'nt leave him alone.

They took him life away,

Then they drug and ill-treat him,

And they claim suicide.
